Bottle shoes. Every time I see this photo of this boys bottle shoes, I am shocked. I want to say that this is pretty creative to come up with this idea. I am also saddened that this boy has no shoes. When times were tough for us as kids our grandmama always made sure that we had shoes and a warm coat. Who will take care of these children? Tom's shoes will donate a pair of new shoes to kids in Africa for every pair of shoes you purchase. http://tomsshoedrop.blogspot.com/
Our local churches gathered shoes all kinds of shoes, sandels, flip flops and sent the to needy children. If we don't do our part... Who will?I am thankful that I have shoes and I am blessed by that fact. These children have so little, yet they have abundant joy. When all you have is nothing, you don't know that all you have nothing.

I've seen this picture too and its heartbreaking. Its also a wake-up call to me that I have given my son TOO MUCH...but I've also taught him from a young age about poverty and how blessed we are. Our church used to go to a boy's orphanage in Tijuana and Keven saw for himself what its life to have very little.
I love Tom's shoes, such a great idea.
I feel so blessed today because my children and their children never had to wear bottle shoes. I think we tend to forget about the suffering that we don't see before our eyes.
I would hazard a guess that the child, boy or girl, in this picture is grateful for his shoes, no matter what they are made from, because the soles of those little feet are at least protected. I admire what nations do for children and wish we could do more. I would like to bring this youngster home and give him a hug, a good meal, a warm bed and clothes for his back, shoes for his feet...in that order...

Another good choice for gratitude. This is sad and you've provided a way to help.

Excellent post, Pam. Your words remind me of my favorite line from a Eucharistic prayer: We look to the days when sharing by all will mean scarcity for none.
Blessings, my friend.
Terrific! And another plug for Tom's shoes and that great mission service to those with so little. . .
