Peace for one day...

I hope and pray that you will post your Peace globe on Nov.5, 2009. Imagine if all the bloggers posted with one voice on that day. Peace is the cause and we need it desperately in our world. Together, we can make a difference. For one day...Peace? Yes, it is possible.

You can find out about this worthy cause by clicking on my side bar or go to Mimi's blog for more information.Mimi Writes.......

She is the creator of this movement and she has been working very hard on this.
Please look deep inside of yourself and blog for Peace. There are even people that will help you with your globe, so don't be scared to participate. It will mean so much to all of us that care about peace, but especially for Mimi, it would make all the difference to her.

Blessings and Peace be with you,
Pam

My Grandmother's Hands

I have my grandmother's hands. Not my mother's pretty little hands...but my beloved grandmother's hands. They are strong, bent with arthritis, a few scars. Mostly they are a reminder of the wonderful grandmother that I had. I can make chicken N dumplings just the way she did. It brings such good memories of her when I am cooking or baking one of her recipes.

She had all the recipes in her head. So one summer, while I was in college, I ask her to help write down her recipes. It was a pinch of this and a dash of that with enough flour added one cup at a time until it would pull away from the bowl. Pour salt into your cupped palm which equaled one and a half teaspoons of salt. This all sounded Greek to me, but in that summer afternoon, we made a wonderful connection. The attic fan blew in a breeze while we sipped fresh lemonaide.

Granddaughter and grandmother for one precious long hot summer day carefully measured the ingredients and I wrote the measured amounts down. I remember as a young girl helping her roll out the dumplings and how special I felt in that she had confidence in me to roll them just right. You know a lot of lessons can be gleaned from cooking together. Mostly I learned that summer how much love goes into those recipes, how you could not rush the boil of the stock. You added one dumpling at a time so they would not stick together. How much tender care was taken to present the best meal for my Pawpaw. The handing down of a family recipe to a granddaughter was one of the most memorable times we spent together. I treasured that day as well as other special memories with grandmother.

When my sons were young, we pulled up a chair and they would help me roll out the dumplings. I still remember it well, flour everywhere and cutting out the dumplings to let them rise. In that moment I felt like grandmother was there with us and giggling along with us. It was a magical moment.

Yes, I have hands like my grandmother...with callouses, broken nails, a splinter or two, and hands that garden too. My hands paint shudders, arrange flowers and make dumplings. Occassionally, I get them manicured, but then I work with my hands. So they never stay too neat for very long. I am proud of these hands because they remind me of her. She is with me always and never far from my heart.

My granddaughter

OK, here is the latest on my granddaughter, Ali. My DIL and Ali stayed all day at the first hospital. They ran every kind of test they could to find out what is wrong with her. The doctors decided that the CAT scan showed that her appendix was about to rupture.

With that said, the doctors sent them via ambulance to another hospital where there is a pediatric surgeon. He looks at everything and says "It is not her appendix." He reviews all the test and says no surgery. He still does not know the cause of her pain or what is going on with Ali. He gives my DIL his phone number and says if she gets worse to call him. He said not to go back to the first hospital because they know nothing about children.

My sweet DIL and Ali get home so late. They are exhausted and have not eaten a thing all day. I am just thankful that she did not have surgery. Ali was so afraid and the only person she wanted was her Daddy, and knowing her Daddy, he is upset that he can't be with her. Duty calls first when you are in the service.

I know when we were in the service, everything that could go wrong went askew when my Hubs was TDY or on alert. It never failed. I have been amazed at how strong my DIL has become from being married to the military. I thank God for her. I am thankful to see her blossom into this wonderful loving woman, wife and mother.

So I ask you to continue to lift Ali up in prayers. My DIL had sent out prayer request, and I sent them out. I know that God is watching over them as always and that brings so much comfort to me as I am so far away from where they live. I have said before that we are the only family she really has and I love her with all my heart.

When I know more I will let you know. Thank you for you immediate prayers and continued prayers.

In His Name,
Pam

Calling all Angels

This is my little granddaughter and tonight she is having an emergency appendectomy. Please keep her in your prayers because her Daddy, our son, is TDY in Germany and she is kind of scared about all of this.

Ali is just like her Daddy was at eight years of age. She loves to do all things, she loves horses, skate boarding, baseball, hiking, swimming and anything her brothers do. Please keep my DIL in your prayers too because she has her hands full right now.

Going, going, gone...

fI wrote about this incident a while back, but have only just now received the photo from one of the men that helped Doc get his tractor upright. Doc has been clearing out the lower part of our land and he just got in a bad spot and in slow motion he and his tractor went over. He was able to jump off and thankfully did not get hurt.

He has planted a garden for the deer. We love all animals and the deer are are so beautiful to look at. They feast on corn, root vegetables, winter peas, clover and a variety of other grasses. I will try to get the pictures posted if it stops raining.

Little blessings

I have worked most of this week at the flower shop, thus no posts, thus not much to write about either. It has rained a bunch. Trees are down in the next town and as far as I know it doesn't look good. We were just lucky and I am thankful.

Work has been great and I am blessed to be busy with lots of floral orders. Autumn is arriving in the store with potted mums and beautiful fall arrangements. Where I work is in a two story one-hundred year old house that has been added on to from time to time, thus it can not apply for an historical site. The front porch is lovely and decorated with large Mexican pottery ware, mums, rocking chairs, grapevines over the door with little twinkle lights. It is so charming that you know the rest of the store will be wonderful. In fact it is the only nice place to shop for anything in this little small town. We have a good feed store, Dollar store, the vet, a bank, a really bad grocery store and a few eateries. Ten miles south of where I work there is nothing. We are deep in the woods.

It was such a pleasant surprise to find this little jewel of a shop. The shop is one of the nicest gift shops with all kinds of unusual and delightful gifts, jewelry, clothes, purses, candles with antiques adorning the old lofty walls. People come from all over to shop here. There are two wonderful hairdressers and tanning beds. They also sell antique roses, stone ware, birdbaths, and much more.

I am the floral designer for this adorable shoppe. My boss is so nice to work with and it is nice to not be in charge or own this shop. Even better is everyone is like family there. I am so thankful for this little job. I don't need the job, but the job keeps me busy.

Since our move, I now have eight friends in this little tiny town. When I get down about how much I miss my home town, I think of my job. No stress, fun place and interesting folks to be around. It is a little lagniappe, a little something extra special for me and I feel blessed.

Mary's Lamb

A friend emailed this to me and I thought it was too good not to pass on.

Think carefully about what you will

Be reading...

Mary, had a Little Lamb,
His fleece was

White as snow.
And everywhere

That Mary went,
The Lamb was sure

To go.
He followed her

To school each day,
T'wasn't even in

The rule.
It made the

Children laugh and play,
To have

The Lamb

At school...
And then theRules all changed one day,
Illegal itBecame;
To bring The Lamb

Of God to school,
Or even speak HisName!
Every day got

Worse and worse,
And days turned

Into years.
Instead of

Hearing children laugh,
We heard gun

Shots and tears.
What must we do

To stop the crime,
That's in our

Schools today?
Let's let TheLamb

come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!

If you agree,

Then you know what to do.
God Bless you
