A Look Into My Day

One of the things that I have been trying to do is take my dogs to the vet. Since my knee injury, I have not been able to wrangle the dogs up to take them there. When Sister came back to visit, that was one of our "things to do". We did manage to take the two cats and Carmen, the dobbie, to the vet last week. That was uneventful, but expensive, very expensive. Good thing that just comes once a year.

The dogs' bill was so expensive because of the heart worm and flea & tick meds. That is something they can not live without down here in the south with all the mosquitoes. Everybody got a clean bill of health and that was good news.

Then yesterday, I decided we needed to take the other two dogs, Suzie and Hot Dog for their shots. I should have know something was up when Hot Dog did not want to come off the deck. I chase him around and in they go to the back seat of my truck.

Upon arrival, Hot Dog pulls out of his collar. I am thinking "If I don't get him I am in real trouble because he is Hubs dog." We really love our animals and Hot Dog is so special. More dog wrangling and we are inside the stinking vet. I bribe them with dog cookies. Suzie, my yellow lab is like a big clown. She loves everyone and everything. She is my happy girl.

Back to Hot Dog... When he is scared he yelps like a screaming banshee. The assistant reaches down to pick him up and "Eahzze...Eheeech...Meeee! He promptly tries to bite her. He has never ever acted up like this, well he was mad when I had him neutered last year. He messed up the floor...some gland he released? It was a mess! He was not a happy dog. He growled a few more times and then I let them take him and bath him.

Suzie's next. No problem...What shots in my hinny? She likes them and does not even notice she has a plastic stick up her rear end to check for worms. A tight thing around her arm to draw blood and check for heart worms. Off she goes to get her bath. If a dog could sing that would be Suzie.

In the mean time, Sister and I go shopping for an hour while they are bathing my dogs and pampering them in the lap of luxury. Time passes and I call to see if they are ready. Hot Dog was so scared they had to put him to sleep to bath him and he will be awake in a hour or two. WHAT? I go directly to the Vet to get my babies. They have to carry Hot Dog out. They are both still wet. My Suzie girl is so happy to see us. Hot Dog is in a stupor. This is not going to be good when Hubs sees his dog.

Hubs carries him to the deck and dries his sleepy dog off and then sits with him until he can awake enough to try to walk, but his hind legs are not co-operating and he is so drunk looking. I tell Hubs that from now on he will have to take Hot Dog. This was just awful for him and me.

This vet is not at all like my former vet. They loved my dogs and my dogs loved them. I will be looking for a new place to have them bathed. Hot Dog did forgive me late last night. Poor little guy. We were all traumatized.

How awful. Poor Hot Dog. I agree that you need to find a different place to take your babies. The put him to sleep without your consent? That's very unusual. Just saying.

Have a terrific day Pam. Big hug. :)

It's outrageous to me how much vets charge but it is so necessary as you say. Poor Hot Dog. Sometimes they just must think the world is against them and do whatever they have to do to for themselves. At least you got them all taken care of. Cute dog. I love 'em Have a great day :)

Pets cost more to look after than kids!

I've never heard of a dog being put to sleep to have a bath. :0

Sandee, I will be looking for a different vet too. I was upset that they put him to sleep with out telling me or even calling me.

Thom, I agree that Hot Dog must feel like the world is against him. He weighs 37 lbs. and is adorable and has never acted this way. I think it was the vet and her assistant that had a problem. I will make sure the head doc hears about this.

Akelamuls, makes no sense to me. He is a sweetie and a little scaredy cat. But don't put him to sleep. Now I am sure they will tag him as a bad dog.

What an ordeal you and Hot Dog had to go through. Glad you were forgiven. You have beautiful dogs.

Oh my goodness! How awful for that dog. My brother is a vet and he would never do that to a dog for a bath. If the dog was that upset they should have called you and let you know that he was too scared to bath, instead of knocking him out for a bath.

Oh how awful. I have one dog (my lab) who will go anywhere with me and loves everyone, but one dog (my Jack Russell) is frightened to death of the vets. She actually bit the vet once so I now have to put a muzzle on her. It's horrible because she is absolutely terrorized and I have no way of telling her there's no reason to be afraid!
