I have some really bad news about Carmen, our Doberman. She has cancer. Oh my gosh! I don't know what my sister will do without her. I never dreamed that her biopsy would be so bad. She has Adenocarcinoma in her breast. The lady at the vet's office told me the news. She could not even pronounce it. The doctor will not remove the rest of the tumor because it would spread.
We will keep a check on it in two months. The lady said that it was a really bad tumor and fast growing.
I ask about treatment. They did not recommend anything. I am still in shock.
I am asking for prayers for Carmen. I know she is a dog, but she is not just any dog, she is our beloved pet and we love her so much. Some of you may not know that I found her on the road in the country. I stopped to give her some water and in she jumped into my truck. I remember my sister laughing so hard at that dog that day. Little did she know that she would wind up with her. Little did we know how much she would bring to our lives. That was almost two years ago.
It was love at first sight. You could tell that someone had abused her because she would not even look you in the eyes and she cowered when a man was near. Something about this wonderful dog spoke to my heart. She did have a collar on and I thought I would just take her home and call her owner. I came to find out that Carmen was from another state, Louisiana, and the vet did give me her owner's number, but it had been disconnected. We were able to get her age and name from the other vet.
I took the dog to the vet only to discover that she had heart worms. We had her treated. That is when I really came to love this big beautiful dog. Her spirit of love and never giving up. Her silliness, her intellect, her attitude. So it is in this spirit that I pray that Carmen will over come. She has over come so much so far and that is my prayer that she will over come this too.
Have any of you ever heard of this cancer? Please leave me a comment if you have any information to help her.

HI PAM
Big love and hugs to Carmen and to all of you that love her too. I am so sorry to hear she has cancer. And no, I never heard of that kind. I love that you found her and took care of her and loved her. She has lived well since because of you and your family. Sending you all prayers and love and good energy.
Love Gail
peace and hope for us all
Well, first, let me say this dog came into your life (and truck) for a purpose. Perhaps it was God's way of being sure her last years would be good ones.
What your dog has is run of the mill breast cancer--a disease I despise more than most. During my first breast cancer 3 day event in 2004, I walked behind a woman who had a giant picture of her dog on her back. She, the dog, had died of breast cancer. Four weeks later, my beloved mother in law was diagnosed with it already in stage IV. It had spread to her lungs, liver and unfortunately, her brain.
The best you can do for Carmen is keep her comfortable. I know this journey is hard and I wish you well. I think that whoever put her in your path, obviously chose well.
Sandee, thank you for the hugs and prayers for Carmen. We are just NOT ready to say good-by to her.
DeEtta,I told my sister last night. It was so difficult to tell her and to hear her crying on the phone.
JBR,I have never dealt with breast cancer. I do not know what to expect at all.
The Bear's BLog, it never gets any easier loosing a beloved pet. It is as hard now as when I was a little kid. Thank you for all the prayers.
Gail, Carmen has brought so much love and joy into our lives. It seems so sad that there is nothing we can do for her.
Rudee,I am sorry to hear of your MIL's breast cancer. I did not know that dogs could get it.
I wish I had you here for her final days. Should I ask for any pain medicines? I don't even know how long she has left. I am still trying to take all of this in and process it.
As a pallative nurse, and as an owner of a dobie yourself, I appreciate all of the information you can give me to help Carmen.
Hugs to all of you for the compassion and love you share with Carmen, and my sister and myself.
So sorry to hear this! Dogs are so special, I think she found you at the right time. She sensed your kind heart :)
Throwback at Trapper Creek, Nita, I appreciate your comment so much. I know how much you love your dogs.
Pam,
Be in close communication with your Vet. Hopefully he is a caring and compassionate MD and will help you both through this. And YES YES YES get pain medication for her.
You have my e-address & phone number and you talk to me anytime - I am always here.
Big hugs to you both.
I'm sorry to hear about Carmen, Pam :(
I have been on-line looking and looking.... but it would seem that the common course of treatment is removal, unless it is too far progressed :( Perhaps you can ask for pain medicaion for Carmen, as it doesn't sound like this type of cancer is unpainful.
((hugs)) for you and the road ahead. I know that Carmen feels the warmth and love of you and your family around her, you should be proud of being such a great human companion to Carmen. ((hugs))
I'm so sorry to hear about Carmen and sorry that I do not have any information that may help you.
I am sending love and oodles of Reiki to Carmen. She has you and your family to love her, I hope she doesn't suffer too much. xxxx
Joyce, my vet is really not very available to me. I go to church with him. I think he is not very good with death or helping people through it.
I don't understand him at all. I will go in and talk with him after Christmas. He does not call anyone so you can see just how hopeless I feel. I have never had a vet like him before.
Thank you for your prayers and friendship. Love to you and the bears.
Xmichra, thank you for trying to find help for her. My vet is very criptic in telling me anything. My former vet I knew for 25 years. She cried with me when I had to put down a beloved cat.
I know that I need to have these questions answered sooner than later. Maybe I have been too dense to take this all in. The vet told me, but I didn't understand it all.
I would be a better human if I had a way to save her. It is so hard to accept this outcome.
Akelamula, just knowing that everyone is so compassionate and loving for Carmen is such a blessing. I appreciate the Reiki and prayers.
Animals are such a blessing to our lives. I pray that dear Carmen will be comforted and you will too.
I'm sorry to read about this my friend. Please know I send all the Aloha and Sunshine I can to you and the family. I hope Carmen is comfortable and please keep the wonderful memories of her with you always. Me Ke Aloha
Pam...I'm so sorry to hear this. Reading through your post...reminded me of a dog I had when I was living on the streets. I was in a fire and she jumped thorugh a burning doorway to pull me out. I understand the love for a pet...and yes I will pray for her. Hugs to you.
Sarah, dogs are indeed are best friends, especially in times of need.
I'm so sorry, Pam. I will definitely say a prayer for your beloved Carmen. I personally know how shocking this kind of news is. She is blessed to have a loving friend in you.
Thinking about you dear one.
((((Pam))))
Susanne, thank you for the caring comment. I know how hard it was when your sweet dog passed.
JBR, (((Hugs))) back to you my friend. Thank you so much.
Pam, I am so sorry to hear about Carmen and the Cancer. I hate cancer in all forms for all creatures.
Praying for you and Carmen!
I'm so sorry about this. I was worried I'd have to make a decision about Mr Tucker this holiday season, but he has responded well to his meds and he's doing OK. I wish the same could happen for Carmen.
Pam just checking in on you. My dear one here listening always. My heart goes out to you as you go through this trial. May God comfort any fears you may have. You are truly a sweet person. ((((Pam))))
Jennifer, thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Carmen.
Travis, I hope we can keep her free of pain. From the research I have done, I'm going to start her on a low carb high protein diet with extra vitamins plus a lot of root vegatables.
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. TUcker's health problems. We once had a cat for almost 17 years. She was so special to us. I know how wonderful your cat is to you and Pam. I hope you have him as long as you can.
JBR, thank you for checking back with us. I don't know about you, but I am worn out from the holidays and I did very little this year.
You are very kind and a sweet friend.
This breaks my heart. I am so sorry. Carmen is in my prayers. Hugs to you, dear. Thinking of you.
I am so sorry to hear about Carmen. Animals aren't just pets...they're family too.
