Somewhere In TIme

Some where between sleep and slumber in the dawn of the early morning I feel no pain. Surely this must be what heaven is like. My life is perfect at this one moment in time. I am thankful for the peace and sense of well being I feel. I will add this to my memories of my happy places to recall.

My happy place is where I go to when the pain is so intense that I can't stand it anymore. It is a visual cue for me. More often than not it works for me. I can recall the sweet smell of my grandmother's roses and daffodils even after all these years. Her yard reminded me of the poppy fields in the Wizard of Oz. I could lay down between the daffodils and become intoxicated from the smell. A wondrous state of being that I cherish to this day.

Sometimes, it is a chord of music that transports me to another memory. Have you ever had this happen to you? How do you cope with chronic pain?

HI PAM-''

It is so good that you can go to "happy places". I have facilitated therapy groups to help our clients find "happy places" to which they can escape rather than using drugs and/or alcohol.

I really enjoyed this post and it reminded me that I need to go to my "happy places" too.

Love to you
Gail
peace an dhope

Like you, I have to go someplace else. Though my back pain comes and goes, when it's there, it's intense. I usually knit my way through it and choose something complicated to keep my mind occupied.

I also use a TENS unit. It works.

Thankfully I do not have pain like that now since I had my knee replacement. I'm sorry you have. x

Mike, the sweet sounds of the Dulcimer would be welcomed sounds.

Hi Gail, this was a trick I learned when I was a child and had to endure the pain of dialation at the urologist office. I have used this form of self hypnosis and it helps.

Rudee, chronic painis tough to deal with, and I don't want to depend on the pain meds my doctor gave me. I am sorry that you have back pain. How did you get a tens machine? Do you have to have a prescription for it?

Akelamula, when did you have your knee replaced? I either missed that or forgot it. Sorry. On your trip, I noticed those tall high heels. Your lucky to be able to wear them.

Happy Place, have not thought of them in a long time. Glad you are able to escape into them. Blessings.

I am glad you have a happy place.

I have a dream place, too. It's a bubbling brook in a still forest, with sunlight flashing through leaves and striking the water in brilliant diamonds. Butterflies flutter as I lay on a soft cushion of moss, listening to the birds sing.

JBR, with this hot and humid day it makes pain so much worse. What is one of your favorite happy places?

Hey Nessa, I loved your description of your happy place. It sounds magical.

I'm still trying to learn the limits...what is merely discomfort that I can push through and what is going to lay me up and stop me for awhile.

Fortunately I love to read. I turn to my stacks when there isn't anything else that works.

Travis, thanks for the comment. I appreciate your stopping by and saying something.

The heat is so hot right now. I need a good book to read. The last one was a dud.

Oh dear...I am so sorry about your pain and it is so hard to cope. Especially at night when everything is so very quiet.. I cope with meds and keeping busy, but the nights are tough.. Feel better Pam... hugs.. Michelle

1) That is an awesome picture 2) I'm sorry you have to go through so much pain Pam, I'm very lucky in that I've never suffered with that. The worst I had was after hip surgery and thankfully had lots of medical pain relief! And 3) what a wonderful, descriptive and evocative post .... gorgeous imagery :)
