Gun safety class

Today was my first ever gun safety class. I admit I am scared to death of guns mainly because I never was around them as a child. Of course, my Hubs is lover and has all kinds of guns. From pistols to AR automatics. Needless to say he is prepared for the invasion, when the zombies attack. As our oldest son likes to say "When the zombies are eating your brains out you will wish you had more fire power".

Here are some pictures of hand guns that I shot today. I hope I have the right name with the right gun. It was overwhelming to say the least , but by the time I finished the class, I was not afraid of the loud noises. That is what frightens me the most.

22 automatic
22 pistol

Colt 45 1911

Ruger LCP

9 mm glock

I have never seen this many guns before in my life.

Really?

I always say that I could do more damage with a rolling pin.

Now I am not so sure.

And I shot this big boy last.

Awesome!

44 magnum

I learned so much about hand guns. Safety rules, types of hand guns, hand gun cartridge power charts, Guide lines for handgun accuracy, good grips versus bad grips, shooting errors, responsiblity for the bullet once it leaves my gun, loading the magazine, standing position, and loads more that I can't remember.

Hi Pam,

Poor Prudence opened your post and those little bent, mohair legs hit the floor so fast, and all I could hear was the "thump, thump, thump" of her little bear feet running upstairs.

I think she is still under the bed. (o:

Joyce, I should have put up a warning. Not suitable for young bears. Tell miss Prudence not to be scared. Give her a hug for me. I promise I won't show pictures of guns again.

I am so proud of you!!!!!

It takes a lot for someone who is afraid of guns to actually learn about them. I'm fixing to do a whole series of posts on The GunDivas about properly fitting your gun, grip, stance - everything you learned - in an attempt to take some of the fear out of guns.

My heart is just bursting with pride! One question, though...did you enjoy it at all, or were you completely overwhelmed? Even if you choose to never shoot a gun again in your life, taking the time to learn about them because they are in your house is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Gun Diva, I will be looking for your post on guns. I have to admit I was so scared. The instructor said we could get shakey hand when we went to the firing range. That's because of the adrenaline working in our body.

Of course, I thought it was my diabetes so I ate a few peanut butter crakcers. As I began to feel better then I managed to let go of my fear and shoot. I really enjoyed learning about hand gun safety. I will be looking for a hand gun to shoot with my husband.

Do you have any recomendations? I liked the 1911. Thank you for the encouregement. I appreciate it so much.

Pam,

A little scare every so often is good for that old bear. She is still under the bed, but she fell asleep.

You are brave. My only experience with guns would be a rifle, shooting at tin cans on the fence and a bb gun. My dad was an advid hunter but I mainly went with him to watch.

Wow Pam those are a lot of guns. I have never shot a handgun, but when growing up my father was a Boy Scout Leader and he would take some of the boys to the shooting range and should rifles. That is where I learned to shoot a rifle in a prone position. I did shoot a shot gun once. Knocked me on my butt! I was only 10. What did my dad expect? Thanks for sharing Pam. Blessings.

Joyce, poor Prudence! Tell her it will be OK.

Hugs to her and Sissy and you.

I hope she doesn't have nightmares.

DeEtta, all the men in our family shoot guns. I love to watch the show Top Shot. The best men and women compete in a series of shooting competitions. It is so amazing to watch them in action.

We grew up in the city and never had access to any guns. Living out deep in the country I might have to face down a snake or two. Hopefully that will be the only scary thing. Actually I would prefer that Hubs shoot it, but I could if I had to.

JBR, I have never shot a shot gun and in a prone position. Our instructor had some AKR's but we did not shoot them. The instructor could shoot his bullet into the same hole over and over with great accuracy.

I hope you are sleeping and that your migtaine has passed.

I'm not an enthusiast and I don't own any guns, although if I did it would probably be a Glock. I've handled them before and they feel the most comfortable to me.

It was good to see the 1911...my dad has one of those.

Cool!
I have never shot a handgun, but it is on my list of things to do. Living in the South now, it seems everyone has a gun. It's funny. But I just want to shoot one for the fun of it. Gail has no interest, but I bet she will have fun and I bet she will be a good shot. She's good at mechanical things.
Nice post! Different!

Travis, I liked several different guns. I have yet to decide on which one I want.

Where we live is so remote. There are so many weird(crazy) people down here. I am glad that Hubs is prepared for the what ifs in life.

I am not nearly as afraid as I was. I will probably get my consealed handgun liscense because the largest town I go to shop is full of so much crime. Everyday someone is being car-jacked. I prefer to be diligent in my awareness of things around me. I lock my truck as soon as I get in it.

Ferd, you know I have lived in the South for most of my life. Guns are a big part of the culture in the South and especially in east Tx. We have a target range that Hubs uses for his shooting. It would be more of a sport type thing for us. I hope I never have to defend myself because that is something I don't know if I could do. Better to be prepared than sorry.

Thank you guys so much for stopping by and commenting.

The only guns people can legally keep here are air rifles and they can do enough damage. Guns scare the holy bejebus out of me.

Finding Pam said...

Akelamula, You are right about an air gun. In the wrong hands it can cause a lot of problems.

You must not have as many crazy people in England as we do here. We have ferral hogs, coyotes, and snakes just to mention a few critters.

Oh wow! That's a lot of guns! You are so much braver than me.

Finding Pam said...

Dawn, it has nothing to do with bravery, but more about overcoming my fear of guns. Knowledge takes away a lot of fear and of course practice, too.

Nikki (Sarah) said...

yikes Pam...these definitely scare me. I've never even held a gun. Even if you never picked one up...got to tell you....I think you're brave...just by being Pam. ☺

Finding Pam said...

Sarah, I have to tell you that fear has ruled my life forever. I never felt safe as a child and safety has always been an issue for me. I think you are brave for being you.

Learning about guns is something I have wanted to do for a while now.

The noise is what scares me too. Yay to you for doing it!!

Finding Pam said...

Chickie, thanks for the nice comment. The noise is a real ear drum buster for me, but I am getting use to it.
